I finally captured some giggles! Yay!! I just had to do a whole performance–dancing, flailing and generally just looking like a goon. Totally worth it.
No turning back now, Demi Grey, giggles every day!

We’ve reached a new milestone in baby Demi’s life. She can officially get her foot in her mouth! Congrats little girl, this is a very useful skill and it will open many doors!
Seriously though, look at her iron grip… both hands and every ounce of concentration and strength to get those chubby little toes into her mouth. Good form little lady! Mama is proud.
Demi Grey is 4 months old!
She’s still smiley, happy and predictable. Her schedule is 1 hour of play time, nap time, 1 hour of play time, milk, 1 hour of play time, nap and so on. Makes it fairly easy to parent.
New tricks include:
Here she is telling me about her day while we swing in the hammock.
File this under “new talents”. Little sis is sitting in her Bumbo. And I think she likes it too! So funny that Cam fit in the Bumbo for approximately 1 week and then his thunder thighs outgrew the leg holes.

Throwback to Cam in the bumbo!

Our sweet baby girl is 3 months strong! And by strong I mean she has the craziest grip. Sometimes I can’t get her pajamas on because she’ll grab onto the sleeve as I’m trying to pull it onto her arm and she just won’t let go. She also loves gripping the monkey on her Wubba Nub, my clothing, and unfortunately for me, my hair (which at the moment needs no assistance in the thinning process because it’s already falling out in clumps–thank you postpartum hormone changes).
She is still so smiley and truly only cries when she wants to eat or sleep and we pretty much always know which due to timing. So, she’s taking it easy on us.
Some other fun things: she can now track things with her eyes, which has opened up new possibilities for play time. Her babbling is adorable–she sounds like a kitty. Most women can get her to smile and it’s about 50/50 for men, she’ll either smile or stick out her bottom lip in a pout. She’s starting to be more interested in Cam and watches him as he spins around the room. She mostly dislikes tummy time but is getting better at it. Her neck is now strong enough to where you can hold her upright and her head doesn’t bob around.
She snores and gasps all the time while sleeping and it drives us nuts even though we’ve been told (and we know) that it’s normal and she’ll grow out of it. She also has 1 single thick strand of blonde hair on top of her head amidst all that brown hair. Oh and her eyes are a lovely shade of cerulean blue. Yes, cerulean.

Everyone says she looks just like a darker version of Cam, not so much like Joe and not so much like me, but definitely like she’s Cam’s sister. We’re good with that. Cam’s a pretty cute kid 🙂
While I was at work today, Joe had the pleasure of taking Cam on his first trip to the dentist. And when I say pleasure, I actually mean distinct displeasure because even though this was a pediatric dentist office with clean and happy kid-friendly surroundings, Cam wanted nothing to do with it. In fact, it was so bad that Joe compared the experience to the time in the hospital when Cam had to get an IV and there were four of us holding him down while he screamed and strained and kicked and cried.
It is so heartbreaking when you know you’re doing what’s best, but they are uncomfortable and unhappy and probably feeling a little betrayed.
On the plus side, Cam successfully got his teeth examined and cleaned. He also got a new toothbrush and a bouncy ball for being a “good” boy.

But on the down side, the dentist said he can see Cam’s teeth starting to shift due to overuse of his “baba”, so as of today we’re only letting him have it for bedtime which prompted Cam to attempt some trickery. He asked Joe for his baba and Joe explained that he can only have it at bedtime because the dentist said it wasn’t good for his teeth. Well that clever little fox TWICE tried to con Joe into giving him the baba by yawning and saying that he was tired. Your parents weren’t born yesterday kid!

I’ve been hustling to find a preschool for Cam and after a lot of research and just a couple tours, I’m pretty set on sending him to Taproot La Mesa. When I visited them, I just had a good feeling about it.
The Director is so warm and sweet and I can see how even the shyest of kids would open up to her. Beyond that, I think it’s the right size to help him socialize, but not so big that it’s overwhelming. I like that there was obvious order to the facility and the daily schedule. I like that it smelled of cleaning products. And lastly, it’s super convenient.
Today was Cam’s “tryout”. He spent one hour of free time where he was paired with one of the teachers and could play with whatever he wanted.
Upon arrival, he was very apprehensive and even teary. But then he saw the playground and got distracted. I told him we would go inside and meet the teachers together and that seemed to quell his anxieties. Once we got inside, I started filling out a form and before I knew it, he was creeping around the corner to see what toys they had. He started playing with his assigned teacher and I quickly said goodbye and that I’d be back very soon. He said “okay!” without looking up.
My mommy heart was pitter pattering, so proud of him for being brave and trusting me.
When I picked him up, the director told me he did great. At one point he asked for me and she said she could call me if he needed her to. But he just asked for a hug and was okay after that. She said she was surprised at how much of their conversations he understood. Smart boy!
We came home and he immediately fell asleep (with his carrot)… and I hung his first preschool painting on the fridge.
Today was a good day!

Normally when Cam wakes up from a nap he is either grumpy or crying or at best just kind of quiet for a bit. A couple days ago I was in the living room waiting for Cam to wake up from his nap when I heard him through the closed door excitedly talking about something. This wasn’t normal and I was curious to figure out what was going on.
He then opened his door and marched down the hallway, very animated, talking and waving his arms. I asked him if he was okay and if he could tell me what was going on.
He proceeded to tell me about his flying dream:
He told me once, then twice, then three and four times. He was so excited about it he wanted to “show dad at the park” (which prompted a discussion about dreams not being real and that he couldn’t and shouldn’t try doing that at the park… ever!).
Even still, I was delighted at his delight. I have always been a vivid dreamer and I can remember many flying dreams over the years. They certainly are thrilling and I can see why he was so excited about it.

Demi’s 2 month check-up was today. In addition to 4 shots in the legs and 1 oral vaccination, we got to see how well she’s growing. Now, just knowing what other babies look like at 2 months, I figured we had another beefcake on our hands. Turns out that’s very true. And the numbers are….
She was a champ taking her shots and is now knocked out. Hopefully she can just sleep it off instead of feeling any symptoms.
We’re so happy to have another chunky monkey!
This sweet little girl is already 2 months old. As you can see from the photos, I am experimenting with bows… because I don’t really know what I’m doing yet. When I was doing monthly photos with Cam, he tolerated 1 quick set of photos and he was DONE. Demi allowed me 4 different bows and both sitting up and laying down shots. She definitely lets me do what I need to do before she needs snuggles and milk.
